Series of complaints have been sent to Twitter about the “hateful” activities of Abayomi Shogunle, head of Nigeria Police’s complaint unit, on social media.
Nigerians have been using the #EndSARS hashtag to demand end to police brutality and wide ranging reform in the agency.
But Shogunle’s response to the campaign have not only been counter-productive but also filled with hate speech and total disregard for people’s sensibilities, many Nigerians complain. Shogunle recently got in trouble with Ruggedman when he claimed the artiste would no longer back #EndSARS. He said campaigners were attention-seekers.
Tweeters are reporting Shogunle’s handle to Twitter for alleged violation of the micro-blogging site’s policy hate speech and related matters. They want him blocked.
Tweeter @segalink is at the forefront of the campaign.
For those seeking how to contribute to #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG given that people die daily from the impunity of the Armed Robbers and Kidnappers issued Guns by the state to run amok. Please report @YomiShogunle’s handle today for being Hateful & Abusive. #PowerBelongs2U pic.twitter.com/Fxu8IA1pLr

President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to respond to the country’s ongoing call for end to police brutality.
What has really emboldened Yomi Shogunle is government's indifference about the SARS menace.
