The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate disbandment of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad.
Adamu announced this on Monday at his inaugural conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja.
In 2018, Nigerians launched the #EndSARS campaign following reported cases of the police unit officers harassing and brutalising Nigerians.
The federal government ordered former police chief Ibrahim Idris to disband the unit. But Idris only transferred control of SARS from state police commissioners to federal overseers, thereby maintaining FSARS.
But Adamu has now decentralised the notorious police unit.
