Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu reportedly escaped an assassination attempt at about 4am on Tuesday.
The senator’s wife and son were in Ekweremadu’s Apo Quarters residence when gunmen suspected to be hired killers reportedly evaded armed guards and went as far as gaining access into the senator’s bedroom.
The attackers, reports say, momentarily “kidnapped” Ekweremadu’s son and ordered him to lead them the senator’s bedroom. Security sources say they believed the invaders they did not want to open fire early on so as not to alert guards.
It was inside the senator’s bedroom that the armed invaders reportedly met a tough resistance which led to the arrest of one of the attackers. The other invaders reportedly escaped.
The arrested suspect refused has reportedly been handed over to the police.
This will not be the first reported attempt on Ekweremadu’s life.
