High Court 1 sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has granted bail to investigative journalist Don Norman Obinna.
Obinna was arrested on March 1 while featuring on a political radio programme during which he factually analysed government performance.
But police stormed the station and subtly arrested Obinna, and arranged a “kangaroo” court to remand him in Afara prison.
The government has since then been hiding under Nigeria’s dubious “cybercrime law” to incarcerate Obinna and accuse him of publishing false information about the Abia State government and Senator Theodore A. Orji.
But the court granted Obinna, who denies all wrongdoing, bail on Monday morning.
Obinna’s incarceration has been condemned by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
