There are suspicions, Friday, that the accounts of the Abia State House of Assembly may have been looted through illegal withdrawal, and without the knowledge of the outgone speaker Barrister Chikwendu Kalu.
The Clerk, Mr John Pedro Irokansi, who is in charge of the ABHA’s accounts was said to have purposely refused to make records available for proper documentation before the House was dissolved on Friday.
A principal member of the 6th Assembly told The Realm News that Speaker Chikwendu called Irokansi on Monday to tender all the accounts of the House of Assembly.
“The purpose was to know the balance before the House bows out on Friday but he deliberately delayed,” he said.
Members were said to have waited for him till the wee hours of Thursday (yesterday) but he switched off his phones.
“We are suspecting that somebody wants to do massive withdrawal today (Friday) on non-existing contracts because he has the mandate to control the finance of the House until a new one emerges,” he added.
The Realm News can authoritatively report that the Speaker stepped down yesterday without knowing how much was left in the state Assembly accounts.
When contacted, the former speaker refused to speak on the matter. He neither picked his calls nor respond to our text message.
His chief press secretary Mr Okechukwu also refused to speak to us or respond to our text message.
Several efforts to speak to the clerk, Mr Pedro, also proved abortive as all his lines were switched off as at the time of filling this report.
“Please publish the story, it will stop any illicit massive withdrawal if that was the intent,” our source said.
“Do because bank opens by 8am, the news could hamper any plans by anybody who must have perfected documents to write off the money,” he added.
