Dr Philip Nto led Abia State College of Education Technical Arochukwu (ASCETA) on Monday, fired 140 of its junior staff.
The 140 affected staff we learnt, were owed 26months salary arrears.
“The list was posted on Monday after the registrar invited the union leaders of the affected staff and told them that they want to paste the list,” a staff of the institution said.
He added, “Two hours later, the registrar and the bursar fled the college to Umuahia, for fear of a backlash.”
We understand that the next list that will involve the academic staff of the college is expected soon.
ASCETA staff were last paid salaries in January 2018, about 26 months ago.
Recalled that in our exclusive interview published on Monday, ASCETA Provost, Dr Philip Nto disclosed that the management will lay off unconfirmed staff, staff without requisite academic qualifications and staff with false age declaration.
