Pro-democracy group, Abians for Good Governance (AGG), has told the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led government of Abia State to pay its workers or face unrelenting mass protests.
AGG gave the state government 30 days to do the needful.
”We can no longer watch your government continue to display this gross insensitivity towards the plight of our dying workers and frail pensioners,” AGG convener Don Norman Obinna said in an open letter to the government on Sunday.
As at the time of filing this report, Abia civil servants and hospital management board member are owed nine months’ salaries; secondary school teachers, 10 months’ salaries; ASUBEB, six months’ salaries; ASETEC Arochukwu, 15 months’ salaries; and pensioners 25 months’ pay.
Under Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State, has been rated one of the worst states to be a pensioner.
